Baked desserts like the cobbler, crisps, betties, etc. have been around since, well the pioneer days we would imagine.
They are easier to bake then pies, enabling those with less than stellar pie crust making abilities to breathe a sigh of relief.
Not to mention, they taste virtually the same anyway, so why not give it a try?
What’s the difference between a cobbler and a crisp?
A cobbler is a fruit dessert that is baked in a deep dish with a thick dropped biscuit or pie dough topping. Some say they resemble cobblestones.
A crisp, on the other hand, is also baked but it is topped with a crunchy layer of ingredients (usually oats, butter and sugar) which yields a kind of granular and rustic look.
However, we are going to throw that all out the window because what we have here can actually be classified as a ‘Dump Cake’. That’s right folks. We cannot earn the title of SIMPLE Party food if we make things complex or time consuming. So you can always count on us to keep it SIMPLE.

Toppings:
There are a few ways you can fancy this recipe up, but with a name like Dump Cake, it’s best to keep it simple. There are however, some topping ideas that will bring it to the next level.
It’s impossible to mention apple cobber without ice cream in the same sentence. To give it a twist, try topping it with some caramel syrup or a special blend of apple pie spices. Why not change it up with some cinnamon ice cream. Then, of course, there are those who only will have their apple cobbler with whipped cream.
Whatever your cobbler is topped with, this dessert is a winner! The use of the crockpot keeps the house and oven cool AND it can kept warm until ready to serve.

October 5, 2020 at 4:53 pmThis is so cool because I have to be gluten free. I actually have a gluten free yellow cake mix that I think would work. Yay! Thank you!
