SIMPLE Honey Bee cupcakes

SIMPLE Honey Bee Cupcakes


  • 1 1/2 Cups All-purpose flour
  • 3/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Butter, softened
  • 4 ounces Cream Cheese, softened
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1/4 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 Stick Butter, softened 
  • 6 ounces Cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Half and Half (or whole milk)
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Wilton sugar “bees” icing decoration
  • 1 large piping bag, 1 large round frosting tip


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray or line a standard muffin tin.
  2. Using a hand or stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. For further instructions on how to cream butter and sugar go here.
  3. Mix in the cream cheese, vanilla, buttermilk, and eggs on low until well incorporated. Mix in the honey and mix on medium for 1 minute.
  4. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Add batter into the muffin tin until each is about 2/3 full.
  5. Bake for 17-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting. 

Directions for Frosting:

  1. In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, cream together butter and cream cheese and beat until light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract.
  2. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, while adding a bit of milk in between each cup.  Continue to mix for 1 minute or until creamy. Mix in the cinnamon until well incorporated.
  3. Add in the food coloring.
  4. Prepare piping bag and fill bag with frosting. Pipe a small “blob tower” of icing in the middle of the cupcake.
  5. The frost your “beehive” around the “blob”. Decorate with your cute bumblebees and enjoy!
