Apple cider donuts is the reason fall was invented!
Ingredients

For the donut batter:
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs, room temperature, beaten
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 3 ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
Coating:
- Cinnamon Sugar: 1 ½ cups granulated sugar, 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon plus ½ cup unsalted melted butter
- Glaze: 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 tablespoon apple cider
Instructions
- Add apple cider to small saucepan and bring to boil over medium high heat and cook until reduced to ¼ cup, about 10-15 minutes. Cool completely. (This step can be done hours or the day before.)
- Preheat oven to 350° F and spray donut pans with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, beat sugar and butter until combined. Add the eggs and mix until well combined.
- Add buttermilk and reduced apple cider and mix until well combined.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and spices.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir just until combined.
- Fill donut pan about ½ full.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Let the donuts cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes then remove from the pan before glazing.
For the cinnamon topping:
- Combine cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Melt the butter and allow it to cool slightly before combining with the sugar.
- Dip donuts in the sugar mixture and immediately coat both sides and set on a wire rack
For the glaze:
- Combine the powered sugar, milk and cider in a bowl. Whisk until smooth.
- Dip donuts on one side and allow to drip on a wire rack.
