Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Cups Sliced Apples, 4 large or 5 medium Granny Smith, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice

For the topping:

  • 3/4 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Quick Cooking Oats
  • 10 Tablespoons COLD Butter
  • 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Apple Pie spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F and completely butter a square 8×8 baking dish (bottom as well as the sides).
  2. In a medium bowl, add the topping ingredients.  Use a fork or pastry cutter to incorporate the butter into the flour/oat mixture until it resembles course pea sized sand. 
  3. Combine the chopped apples, sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon in a large bowl until the apples are  place coated. 
  4. Spoon them into the buttered pan and evenly spread the topping all over the apples.
  5. Bake on the center rack for 30-35 minutes or until apples are tender and bubbly.
  6. Serve warm or room temperature with ice cream and caramel if desired.
